Gong Hyung-jin’s Misstep: What He Said to Cha Ji-yeon at the 70th Anniversary Event?
Kong Hyung-jin Expresses Sincere Regret... Apologizes to Cha Ji-yeon

(MHN Reporter Park Sun-ha) Actor Kong Hyung-jin has issued an apology for controversial remarks made to fellow actor Cha Ji-yeon during an official event.
On May 19, Kong's agency, K-Heart Entertainment, released an official statement addressing the controversy surrounding his comments at the 70th anniversary celebration of Far East Broadcasting.
The agency explained that Kong intended to put Cha at ease, given their friendly relationship. "He meant to encourage her to relax and enjoy the event. There was no intention to embarrass or offend her," they clarified.
The statement continued, "We regret that the on-stage exchange was misinterpreted, leading to misunderstanding and controversy. We've extended our apologies to Cha Ji-yeon's team and to anyone who felt uncomfortable."

Kong himself expressed remorse for his actions and words.
His agency stated, "Kong sincerely apologizes if his remarks made viewers or fans uncomfortable. He acknowledges the importance of showing consideration at public events and has apologized to those who were upset."
They also addressed how the controversy overshadowed the event's purpose. "We deeply regret that this meaningful 70th anniversary celebration of Far East Broadcasting gained attention for the wrong reasons," the agency noted.
The statement concluded, "We hope this situation can be resolved amicably through mutual understanding, rather than being blown out of proportion. We commit to exercising greater caution in our public conduct moving forward."

The incident occurred on May 17 at Hanyang University in Seoul, where Kong co-hosted the "70th Anniversary Homecoming Day of Far East Broadcasting" with Cha Ji-yeon.
During the event, Kong asked Cha to bow again, saying, "Since I'm your senior, greet me once more." When Cha's photo appeared on screen, he quipped, "Where's my picture? I'm much more senior than her." Throughout the event, he used informal language when addressing Cha.
After footage of these interactions surfaced online, critics deemed Kong's behavior inappropriate for a formal event. In response to the growing controversy, his agency issued the official statement to apologize and provide context.
