Young K: Approaching Solo Album as if It Could Be His Last

DAY6's Young K has revealed that his recent title track was inspired by real-life experiences that left him feeling hurt.

On May 5th, the YouTube channel 'Yuin Radio' released an episode titled "Young K's Here, Let's Roll! | Yuin Radio S3 EP.16." The broadcast featured Young K, who recently dropped his second full-length album 'YOUNGEST', discussing the creative process behind his new music and sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes stories.

Hosts Yuin Na and Ko Young-bae expressed amazement upon learning that the album contains 15 original tracks composed by Young K himself. The artist explained, "I'm not one to fixate on a single style. I enjoy diversity, which is reflected in the varied vibes of all 15 songs on the album."

Ko Young-bae, a close friend of Young K, couldn't help but marvel at the artist's productivity. "Whenever I see Young K, which is every few months, I always ask, 'When did you write this song?' He always has something new. It's truly impressive," Ko praised. Young K humbly responded with a smile, "I guess I'm fortunate to have good stamina."

Young K approached this album with a heightened sense of urgency. "This time, I worked as if it could be my last," he revealed. "I thought to myself, 'I don't know when I'll have another chance to release a solo album, so I should give it my all while I can.'"

The broadcast also featured a live performance of the title track "Shut The Door." Young K described the song as a raw expression of his emotions, "like writing in a diary." He shared, "I had been hurt by something just before working on this song. I wrote the lyrics in about 30 to 40 minutes while in that emotional state."

After hearing the live performance, Ko Young-bae commented on the lyric "The friends I trusted are talking behind my back," noting how refreshing it was to hear such candid words in a song. Young K admitted with a laugh, "My friends actually got caught gossiping," confirming that the lyrics were indeed inspired by real events.

Yuin Na wrapped up the discussion on a light note, saying, "I don't think anyone goes through life without such experiences. It's something we all encounter at least once."
