Super Junior's Leeteuk and Heechul Reveal Their Polar Opposite Preferences

Super Junior member Kim Heechul disclosed that despite a 20-year friendship with Lee Teuk, their personal tastes couldn't be more different.
On July 21, Channel 'TEO TEO' released a video titled "Tracing the Roots of Super Junior." The footage featured Heechul and Leeteuk, both born in 1983, in conversation with MC Jang Do-yeon.

During the show, Jang Do-yeon asked the long-time collaborators, "Do you two ever spend time together outside of work?"
Heechul responded, "Our interests are worlds apart. Leeteuk is a golf enthusiast who can't handle alcohol, while I'm a drinker who's hopeless at golf."
When asked about their bandmates' reactions to their unit formation, Leeteuk shared, "Donghae was the first to bring it up. We've been in the industry for so long, and everyone thought Heechul and I would never form a unit. Now that we have, it feels like a breath of fresh air."
Heechul chimed in, "We're like oil and water. Our fans are well aware of how mismatched we are, but they're intrigued by this unlikely pairing."

Reminiscing about their dormitory days, Leeteuk revealed, "We shared a room. I took the left side, Heechul the right. My decor was all white, his was red," further emphasizing their contrasting tastes.
When Jang Do-yeon speculated, "With such differences, I bet you never fought," both men quickly corrected her, saying, "We fought constantly."
Leeteuk elaborated, "Back then, our differences were a big deal. In our hot-headed youth, I often wondered, 'Why can't we see eye to eye? Why are we so different?' But now, in our forties, we've learned to embrace our differences."

Heechul added a poignant memory: "After one of our fights, Leeteuk confessed, 'You're my only friend.' It broke my heart." He also recalled a turning point during their Indonesian tour when Leeteuk, typically a non-drinker, had a drink and completely opened up.
Heechul and Leeteuk debuted together as members of Super Junior in 2005. On July 13, the duo released their new single "Promise" under the unit name 'Super Junior-83z.'
