Mark Apologizes for Controversial T-Shirt: What You Need to Know
Mark’s Team Acknowledges Historical Sensitivity of Symbol, Vows to Strengthen Review Process

Former NCT member Mark has issued an apology for wearing a T-shirt featuring the Confederate flag, sparking controversy in the entertainment industry.
On July 23rd, Mark’s agency, Upper Room, released a comprehensive statement via their official channels. “We sincerely apologize for the concern, discomfort, and disappointment caused by the T-shirt featured in the recently shared photo,” the statement read.
Upper Room clarified that the outfit was chosen solely as a fashion item. However, they admitted to later recognizing the historical significance and sensitivity of the symbol on the T-shirt, promptly taking steps to prevent its appearance in official content.
“Despite our efforts, the image was shared externally, making the symbol visible and understandably raising public concern,” the agency explained.
“Regardless of intent, we acknowledge that this matter should have been handled with greater care and caution,” Upper Room stated. “We take full responsibility for this oversight.”
The agency emphasized their stance against discrimination: “Both our agency and the artist unequivocally oppose and do not tolerate racism, hate, discrimination, or any form of exclusionary attitudes. We fully understand the gravity of the concerns raised by this incident and deeply apologize to those who felt hurt or offended.”
In conclusion, Upper Room pledged to strengthen their internal review procedures for wardrobe selection and content approval to prevent similar incidents. “Moving forward, we commit to acting with heightened responsibility, awareness, and caution,” they assured.
The controversy erupted when an image of Mark wearing a T-shirt featuring the Confederate flag design circulated online. The Confederate flag, originally used by the Confederate States during the American Civil War, is now widely recognized as a symbol of racism and white supremacy, often sparking heated debates.
Mark established Upper Room as his personal agency after departing from NCT in April.
